It is very normal to find a nest or even colonies of carpenter ants in nature, for example in the ground or in a dead tree stump. Their presence is even beneficial, because they feed on other harmful insects such as aphids.

Where it can become a source of concern is when we see it inside our homes. These ants are easily recognizable by their size (from 6 to 20 mm), their color (completely black or black and brown) and their physique – they are strong with a large head and powerful mandibles.
